- Qualifications
Applicants normally must possess a Ph.D. or a J.D. (or foreign equivalent).
The priority application deadlines are the following:
- Fall - May 1
- Spring - November 1
- Summer - March 1
- Research Proposal
Applicants must submit a letter describing their proposed program of research or study, specifying the time period they wish to be in residence at Loyola. Applicants must pursue a program of research or study which is of mutual interest to faculty members at Loyola. A research proposal should be typed, double-spaced, and submitted (electronically attached) with the application. The required font size of the professional goals statement is 10 pt. or larger; the recommended length is two pages.The research proposal must be the original work of the applicant.
- Curriculum Vitae
Applicants are required to submit a curriculum vitae. The curriculum vitae should not exceed two typed pages and may include: education information (including honors and awards), employment history, extracurricular or community activities, publications, special achievements, etc.
- TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo English Test Score
Foreign-educated applicants must submit a TOEFL or IELTS score. The Graduate Admissions Committee prefers TOEFL scores of 90 and higher; however, the application will be reviewed in its totality. A slightly lower TOEFL score may be acceptable if the candidate’s other qualifications are very strong. The Admissions Committee will accept an IELTS score report in place of a TOEFL score report. Every IELTS score will be converted into an estimated TOEFL score by using this comparison table. Applicants who retake the TOEFL or IELTS may submit their new score to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
Applicants who do not submit a TOEFL/IETLS score, may be asked to take an Duolingo's English Proficiency exam online. This test can be taken at any time and provides a score in two days only. For more information about Duolingo's English Proficiency exam, please go to https://englishtest.duolingo.com/applicants.Individuals who are native English speakers or who have completed a baccalaureate or a post-baccalaureate degree at an English-language institution of higher education may request a waiver of the English language test score requirement.
